Should I use MovieClip for animating a spripe?

Hi, I'm new to this and wanted to ask to be sure I'm getting it right.
If I want to animate a sprite ( for example, a character running ), I should use MovieClip, such as
local mc = MovieClip.new{
{1, 1, frame1},
{2, 2, frame2},
... etc
right?

here is an example on how to use MovieClip

Additionally you can use TNT Animator Studio which wraps MovieClip and provides a more extended and easier approach
