I must say that the best documentation that I have ever seen is the Microsoft Windows SDK Reference Set of 5 volumes. Here is an excerpt from them,

Also found a copy of the Turbo C Reference guide and the doco in there is also good.
would be nice if documentation was as good (I know for one that I am guilty of poor documentation myself)

This was much much later (pic enclosed) I could not find the first MSDN CD, I recollect it used to have code and utils, specially two called BitEdit and PalEdit for bitmap editing and Palette editing.
Throwing away a whole lot of CD's, most of them are Windows 98 in every language you want (round about 2000-2002) and Microsoft servers and Office 95/97/2000
