Crowd Sourcing - Beer Compatibility Layer

Hi,
You might be aware that I am working on the compatibility layer for another framework that a lot of people have been using before they have had a look at Gideros. Some are concerned about the loss of their work and some worried about learning a new framework. However some of my concerns were since it is not a regulated build (cannot do so offline) and has a lot of restrictions, It makes me nervous to think that I am help hostage at their mercy.

So this compatibilty layer will help to create a library that will translate the entire code to one that can be compiled with Gideros, you have complete control on your code, plus you can use Gideros native API to make it faster.

To facilitate this development, I would like to open it up for crowd sourcing, I intend to raise a certain amount to help me fund the time towards this development, almost like a kickstarter project. This will also give me an idea of how many people are really interested in such a library. So please leave suggestions and let's see the pledges (if any)

I'm interested to get it developed and ready to pay USD50 anytime you wish.

PS: We are also planning to provide a marketplace 2 months later, which will enable individual developers and studios sell and buy digital items. This will help those who are trying to make money from their assets. However do not wait for this, as we have just starting working on the analysis and requirements.
  • I'll match Gorkem's pledge anytime. I think this will be a library MANY will want. Let's say you go forward with it, do you have an estimated time frame?

  • Thanks for the support, I am working on it in whatever sparetime I get between other projects, I will set up a counter/indicator of what we have gotten pledged somewhere.

  • When I first heard about a compatibility layer I was very interested as was still trying to work out Gideros. Two weeks later and I'm not sure if a compatability layer is needed. Tutorials and full game templates done in the Gideros way, now that's something I'd be interested in paying for.

It would be useful for those who have a library of titles already created in the beer setup without having to rewrite everything.

Makes it easier for folks to move over if that's what they want to do and still support their current apps.

I will have a think about what my pledge will be.

    Cheers

  • Hi Ghando, I too agree with needing more tutorials and templates (reason why I'm studying corona now), but the library OZApps is making is for people who already have a finished or current game in the works with corona and this library will help make the transition easier if they want to move over to Gideros.

Regarding templates, here's the first one! http://www.giderosmobile.com/forum/discussion/460/runner-template-for-gideros-mobile#Item_2 and many more will come :)

  • BTW, I don't have a game written in corona right now but I know the amount of time and effort it takes for someone to produce so that's why I am matching Gorkem's pledge of $50. I hope many of you can contribute what you can so we can have a growing prosperous community.

  • Honestly, my opinion is more on Ghando's side: I just went through the refactoring of the prototype, of course the game was simple and not released yet, so I had little to lose other than my own time, but still I think the end result is far superior in all respects, and I like to think forward.
Still, I understand the need to have a middleware of a sort to help the transition: I won't use it, but I'm ready to match Gorkem & Sid pledges

Which is fine if you don't have half a dozen apps you need to continue to support from the other language as well as want to develop further new apps.

I agree that if your creating a new app/game then stick to native Gideros and learn it.
