  We almost have what you need in ogg plugin, I mean Theora encoder should be fairly easy to add and cross platforM; But Theora may not be what you call a popular codec.

  Yes, but ultimately AV1 is really worth looking at. MP4/H264/H265 are patent encumbered and have royalties

  i've added this and the grab and drop feature as an issue on github so that it is not forgotten. i could not label them as feature request.
