Carlos Icaza (I guess some of you know him) just launched Lanica http://lanica.co/
"a game engine framework for Appcelerator Titanium Users."
Anything good?

  • before it is launched, cannot say much about it.

However the first thing is that it will use JavaScript instead of Lua that most are used to here.

Second, have a look at this link
    http://code.google.com/p/quicktigame2d/
a FREE library for Titanium that is now taken off as it is part of Lanica, so this could soon be part of Platino.

Lastly, it is about a new framework that is testing the waters, but it is backed with money from Appcelerator and has most of the Silicon Valley contacts.

What seems interesting is that after the obvious :
    1. based on Titanium which means large userbase, funds and easy to start for those with a web background - js
    2. the engine is based on a module that is already used by devs with success and people report a lot of good things about it
so after those facts, the primary focus on their homepage is OpenGL ES 2.0.
(Lanica is the company name, the product is called Platino and is based on QuickTiGame2d as @OZApps stated.)

They really emphasize that fact, so it's probable that developers (and the market in general) were waiting for a solution in that area (unless their market researches are totally wrong which I doubt).

From what I could understand, @deniz and @atilim have often expressed their respect (and more) towards other framework developers.

[ Source : Great interview to Deniz Asli, CEO and Founding Partner at Gideros Mobile on louesfera.com ]

Lou > Can you tell us something about Carlos Icaza and Todd Hooper (I interviewed them both in my blog)?
Deniz > I do not know them personally. But I read the interviews, follow on twitter. We think alike on many subjects. I respect them very much and wonder what they think about the future of gaming.

Gideros Mobile have their own killer features, competition is always good to keep the market healthy.

  • I once wrote an article about quicktigame2d for a javascript magazine, since Titanium didn't have much to offer for game developers, quicktigame2d was pretty ok, but there was a poor performance on my old device.
Don't know if it will change or they will simply drop support for older devices.
