Is there a way to add circles or rounded rectangles?

Or an easier way to add a rectangle, rather than having to build the path?

Edit : Oh, I just found this on the roadmap - Shape:setCircleStyle( xCenter, yCenter, radius ) - I guess that's a circle ?

Yes it's on the roadmap but currently you should build your path manually.

So straight lines (lineTo) are possible only? Not circles or rounded rectangles?

(It's OK, I can use pngs for those for the moment though)

yes, you're right. In fact, pngs are preferable because they are faster to draw and you won't have a limitation about how they look.

The code uses straight lines to draw curves and like atilim says, it's slower than using pngs, but I posted an example of how to draw a circle (or arcs or ellipses) at http://www.giderosmobile.com/forum/discussion/346/snippet-arccircleellipse#Item_1

Resurfacing an old thread. Are vector objects longer to RENDER or longer to GENERATE?

I'd like to know this too - are they stored as images once created or do they have to be redrawn as vectors - in which case should there be a vector to image command?

They're drawn as vectors. All shapes are triangulated and stored as compact triangle strips internally and these triangles are drawn with a single OpenGL draw command. To convert a shape to an image, render to texture is the way.
