Multiple local players

Is it possible to launch more than one Gideros Player on the local computer? This would be a great help when testing multiplayer games.

Currently not possible as they are sitting on the same port.

Don't know if possible at all. It would mean to negotiate the port during discovery process, etc. Which seems to be overly complicated.

probably easiest solution is to have one player on your android device running and one on your desktop, then you can run your app on both of them at the same time.

Luckily the discovery protocol is already able to convey port information (not only host address), so it should be quite easy to do!

@keszegh I'm building functionality to match five players in a realtime multiplayer game. So using two clients works great, but I'll soon run out of devices!

@totebo, for 5 that's understandable, hopefully @hgy29 is right and he can implement this.

my main concern when i did similar tests was that yet again i could not use zerobranestudio for testing as from it you cannot send to two devices simultaneously.

Implemented in my gideros branch, along with automatic removal of no longer visible players from the dropdown list.
Hopefully it will make its way into 2016.2 Release, that is if we manage to get 2015.12 out at last!

yes, you waited enough, so I released it just now (with @SinisterSoft agreement). There is still a little something wrong with it (AppleTV with luasocket), but I thought most users wouldn't care...

I like the sound of this. I'm also implementing multiclient things and it would be great to have a bunch of players on my desktop to test with.

I tested the latest release on everything I had - all seemed to work great apart from luasocket on appletv - but the fixed lib is available for a diy patch.

+1 for multiple clients btw.

I've continued working on the multiplayer game again. Hey @hgy29, did this get included in the 2016-04 build?

I see a flag called "Localhost Toggle" in the "Player" menu, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Yes indeed! This Terminal command allows me to open more than one instance.

open -n "/Applications/Gideros Studio 2016-04/Gideros Player.app"

Maybe this way of launching the player could be included in the next build?

Fantastic stuff, though! This is going to help a LOT when debugging multiplayer games.

True Up till now I've been using my 2 Android devices, a player started from Gideros Studio, and a player started from ZeroBrane Studio
