Hi all,
Do you have any tipps on pixel art for someone who is a complete noob?
Programs, techniques, best practices, links to beginners tutorials or own experiences?
Doesn't have to be in depth. I just need a starting point at the moment.
What I want to create eventually:
- Fantasy armors and weapons that can fit onto a character
- Fantasy skill effects
- Technical devices (like servers) that look as if they're processing something
I know opengameart.org and they have some good stuff, but it's just not enough to pick from.

If you can use photoshop I found this set of actions which is pretty good, it doesn't even cost too much: http://graphicriver.net/item/pablo-the-pixel-art-builder/3008103
But it feels a bit like using a 3d printer to sign a document.
Another option is to go with a more dedicated software like
http://tilestudio.sourceforge.net/
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keeratipong.pixelartbuilder&hl=en
and/or
https://graphicsgale.com/us/
Then mix it up
The only thing I am sure is that you have to think and draw in pixel art style: you can't just scale down the resolution from a bigger image until you see the pixels. :P
Here's an example from someone who knows what he's doing:
