  I think many of instant messenger clients for linux have IRC module. I am using pidgin. See also:

  I join from time to time. I used to use Xchat, but it's not open source anymore and evaluation of my copy has ended, therefore I had to switch to another client (Nettalk).

  I'm always logged in - best thing to do is keep logged in, its a snowball kind of effect. Also as Gideros grows with users, there will be more people that like to hang out on the IRC channel to discuss development issues and whatnot.
