  What time in GMT (reference point) do developers hang around? I have seen Darkwater_ on two occasions and Greg on one, but I am not sure if it is Colloquy or some setting, I cannot see any discussions (unless there aren't any)

  Discussion only seem to happen when there's an announcement and people remember that there's an IRC channel and I saw this only twice. Therefore I'd say let's fix a time/date for this, and try to be there at that time. I'm not sure whether weekends are a good candidates for this.

  What time zones would work best? We have the European (GMT+1) then we have the America at the other end and Australia at the other (GMT +/- 10)

  Need a few people to persistently hangout in there - otherwise people have a look and leave right away. Enough people stick around and we hit critical mass where people will stay more than 2 minutes

  At least we can set a day and time, and then announce it here everyday - however sometimes we are also not available. I'm not sure how to handle this. I'd be happy if a community member takes this responsibility and posts a reminder here every week at a predefined time. (e.g 20:00 UTC?)

  Maybe you should define a changing topic for it. Usually, without a topic, it will drift into casual small talk. Which I don't find bad at all. Maybe also have a moderator who will lead through the discussion.

  Hey looks like the IRC channel is not visited often by the community. Since everyone gather in this forum, how about if we add shoutbox feature in this Vanilla forum to replace IRC? (only if we need realtime chat though)

  That is a good suggestion, often only one person online on the IRC. If people needs live chat i think shoutbox will be a nice alternative
