Where are files stored on macOSX

Hi guys,
Appologies - I've read a few threads on this but still can't find them. Where are the files saved to on MacOSX (desktop player).
For example, if I use:
dataSaver.save("|D|saveGame", self.scene.saveGame) -- save data

At the risk of sounding thick, where is ' $TMPDIR'
I spent ages looking through /library /user etc.

You can try open terminal and write echo $TMPDIR
it should output the path to your temp dir
