That was the news this morning and that was retracted immediately, no idea why. However the point being that this is just the beginning, Microsoft could be quite aggressive in flooding the market with those surfaces. if we could build apps for this platform, we could have an entirely new market that will develop over the next few years, also making Gideros lucrative.
which brings us back to the point
@Atilim any ideas on when...

But when Gideros supports WP8, perhaps the output code would be reconfigurable to Win RT? I.e. we would just need to make some changes in Visual Studio settings?

"Target WinRT... every surface RT that gets dumped cheap into the market is a customer, with a wallet, trapped in cage. All you have to do is drop a needed functionality in front of them, put a $20 price on it, and smile."

For ex gideros is already able to export for ios and android which are still new and developing.
Discoverability and competition are datas that help to hape a strategy, but too many people are seeing new markets ("being part of the firsts!") as a solution to all their struggles. Could be the opposite.
More platforms the better (IF resources are unlimited and this is what the majority of a framework's customers see as a priority), but it's an illusion for a lot of people that "new market = better business strategy". Didn't read the article so i'm not sure they were pushing this opinion as a fact or not, but i hope dev don't take it as a reality.
That would be a really simplistic way to take business decisions.
These kids and staff already have iPods, iPads, etc, but then when they are given a common platform and there is nothing (so as to day) available, there is a hungry market for applications.
But then that is my take, things could be different based on an individualistic approach/point of view.

I'm not discussing the fact that this could be an opportunity, even if your example (or mine) would in no way give a hint at what the market will look like one year from now.
I was commenting on the need for people (and not specifically you) to always look for the next shiny thing to keep a certain hope.
"I need an idea and it will work"
"The first ones (on WP8) will have a big advantage and will reap the benefits"
"I fail because people can not find my superb app in an ocean of crappy apps in the App store. I get my chances with WP8" Well then as a developer your customer is not the user but schools in which case only a fraction of the current dev would be able to talk to them/convince/sell.
And if *they* buy apps for their own needs, then yes there is an opportunity.
Maybe.
If Microsoft is able to collect credit card numbers as Apple is doing, it could be major.
So as you see I'm not discussing your point, but trying to give it a bit of perspective for some who might need it (and I'm not saying that this is your case).
