Barnes and Nobles announced that they will stop production of Nook tablets.
And will only produce their black and white e-readers.

  • I think it would be more accurate to say that B&N is dying, and facing the weight of their physical stores around their necks as well as their not-so-great foray into making their own devices. (There's probably an interesting story about why Ted Patrick left Adobe to work for Nook, and then left and went to work for Sencha.)

(I wouldn't personally bother making stuff for Nook - not when considering that Microsoft *and* Pearson have invested in Nook. Writing's on the wall for indie content.)

At least in my point of view, mac offers a very different experience from pc.
Something that you can not experience just by having PC from GUI to xCode all the way to other cool things.

mac offers culture, fame,a cool personality, lots of its own functions.
    On other hand , Nook?
Nook is not Unique enough, not much of culture or history behind it.(as Amazon is a celebrity)
    Almost same screen resolution.
They must of offered something very valuable to customer that kindle or android user could not get any where else .they have enough money to hire couple of creative guys to come up with ideas.but they tried to play it extremely safe.
    PC and mac are legends.
kindle and Google are legends too.
Nook, they have not slayed a dragon yet.
personally if it was me I would just make Nook comes
in very bright and different colors, and try to focus on mostly awesome packaging.

That is similar to asking why would anyone buy a BMW over a Mercedes. The answer is "Personal Preference". Mercedes were associated with class long ago, now BMW has that spot. If you asked the question why would anyone buy a Lexus over a BMW or a KIA over a BMW, then the answer would be "Price" or "a definite lack of class"

In the end of the day ,we all love an extra option for income,to be honest I thought nook submission process were pretty neat and less confusing in compare to apple ,the people were very helpful and I love their once in a while promotions for developers.
I hope they will make a come back somehow.

@zoolax, I guess Nook focused on US and Canada developers only. Though as an Australian Developer I could create an account quite early when the Nook device was not even released. The guys at Nook never responded to emails or could never be contacted. This is from many devs even in the US. So, they were bound to crash and burn in a developer oriented market.

Agreed that any additional income is welcome, but I am not sure how that works for you, but the irritating fact is that the income is queued up till it reaches a threshold, then they release it, the Bank sending the transfer deducts a Fee, then the bank receiving converts that into the local currency and then deducts a fee. These fees are approximately $25 each and the Currency exchange loses you approximately another $20-$25 per $1000 transaction. So you have already lost $50 on every transaction plus the exchange rate difference (Australian dollar was running high so far). That is approximately 85 sales of a $0.99 app on the app store taken away by the Banking institutions of the already FAT corporations that bank with them.

well,I have to say they were very picky through the submission process that could turn off lots of developers,I live in Canada,so exchange rate did not bother me as much. What I liked the uploading process.
As for responding to my email,I contacted their help desk directly to get an answer.
I found the email in some random remote location of their site.
But if they come back they have to be more inviting to lots of developer,as from what I understand Samsung and window mobile try to promote their platforms with contest and big prizes.
And they seem to be extremely welcoming to developers.
