Oi! Leave her alone, you guys! I met her first. :x
So, @JanetHasw, how long have you been into shooting the troubles of water softeners? It sounds very interesting.
Y'know (perhaps it's a little bold of me to say this, but), I feel like I already know you. I feel like we have some kind of... connection, or something. Do you know what I mean? It's strange.
Where in the world are you, @JanetHasw? Maybe we could meet sometime ... to practise Lua coding.
I hope you don't think I'm being too forward.
I eagerly await your reply.

@Platypus That would make "installing Gideros" a requirement to ask questions on the forum and get in touch with the team. I don't believe that would be ideal. However, we all agree that the spam system on the forum is not catching those users. Either ask a more difficult question (or 2), or make it a "must" to double opt-in : subscribe to the forum, get a mail, your account is activated only if you click the link, and you are forbidden to post a link right from your first comment(s)?
@Mells comparing to how it used to, current spam prevention works great, they already need to answer a question and verify their email address before posting, so those who get by it, are probably not bots but humans or learned to bypass all the security
@ar2rsawseen I agree on your points, but I said "the spam system on the forum is not catching those users" which is equally true. My suggestion (no link when post counts < 2 for ex, or remove html tags from first comment so the link is visible in plain text) is another layer that works for humans. That's not a pb today, but *if* that number of users scales (might never happen) it's going to be an issue.
Considering that this is the Gideros forum, I think that would be a perfectly reasonable requirement. Be they users, third-party developers or anyone else with an interest in Gideros, if they are posting on the Gideros forum, I believe they should - at the very least - have Gideros on their computers.
I think that would be the perfect solution to eradicate spam.

@Mells I have read that many suggest disabling posting links for members with low rank, but I actually have not seen one single tutorial on how to do it in vanilla. If you find one, please point me to it
@Platypus I get your point but still think it doesn't cover many cases. For example, many third party developers would need to access the forum in order to ask our community feedback about whether they should invest and make their product available for Gideros or not. - Spine - Kwik - TexturePacker (now compatible) - SpriteHelper / LevelHelper (now compatible)
For those developers, there is no need to install Gideros before they actually start building anything and test the market's expectations. The barrier to get in touch with Gideros users and devs should be as low as possible.
Also, think about all those services that work great with Gideros but are not part of the app development itself. What if Revmob, Chartboost, etc.. wanted to get in touch with our users, write a message (why not a special partnership with a discount, or advertise their Charboost Bootcamp)? That also works for Countly.
In those cases, I don't see what would be their interest in installing Gideros at all, because what they do has nothing to do with the engine itself.
About my game, I have slowed down the dev and kind of postponed it until I get more funds (and time) because that project became too huge (that was expected, because of my lack of experience. You know, the last 10%.) : -> I'm currently working on a children book and small mini mini games, on the side. This is where I have allocated my resources for now with a different strategy. Thanks for your enthusiasm
@ar2rsawseen I'll contact you by PM if I find something relevant.
You remember when we've added "What is the programming language of Gideros?" question to the registration page, we thought that we've prevented spam because there wasn't any for 3-4 months.
Maybe these spammers have a database and now it contains that giderosmobile.com's spam preventing answer is 'Lua'. Maybe changing the question can prevent the spam for another 3-4 months but we need other (frictionless) ways (as we've discussed previously).
Why couldnt you go back to a manual registration process. eg. Gideros staff need to approve the registration application manually. (we dont get large numbers of newbies.) and in the application process, ask the question, "why would you like to join this forum". at least a human would need to type up something like "to learn more about gideros".."i need help" etc.
Things are not supposed to stay that way. That's not how the business is supposed to grow (unless Gideros has reached its goals in terms of users mass it´s able to support and delight while maintaining sustainability).
For example there can be only one section of the forum will be free to post for the newcomers. (Introduction Yourself Section) And after 10 post (or less) the other parts will be active. Or after a good description of him or herself the users account will be approved by administrator. I know that it is bringing some extra work to admins but it is the absolute solution. I am sure that lots of old users in the forum are willing to help in the approvement process if it is needed.
how about give power to members that have +500 posts to tag a user/post as spam, so they cant post anything else until a staff member deletes the account or accepts it.
1) we are limited on what is available on provided Vanilla Forum scripts, so don't let your imagination fly completely freely on whats possible here
2) Any member can already flag content and we review it as soon as we receive it, so spams get deleted pretty quickly, but the question is, how t prevent it from appearing at all

Just my 2 cents.
we are now exploring other ways to prevent spam
or
let have fun when spammers come to the forum current numbers are already negligible
