@atilim: I know this is quite an old thread but I just went to the roadmap to see when this functionality is planned and I don't see any mention of isometric, hexagonal or tiled anywhere on the page. Is this an oversight or has the idea been dropped?
@Scouser, these are the important graphical features that we're going to support: - render to texture - isometric and hexagonal tilemaps - official BMFont support - clipping
I just cannot decide how should I schedule these and which one should come first. But let me add isometric and hexagonal tilemap support to the roadmap.
Can I just throw my $0.02 in here and request that first clipping and then render to texture be added second.
I'm looking to develop a full UI library (like the Ansca widget library) and the clipping would be really useful especially if you want to have things like efficient table views that don't fill the whole screen.

Another vote for clipping. I want to add a feature where I have multiple views of the playing area (one for each player), and pretty sure I can't accomplish with I want without some clipping functionality (for objects that are partially on one player's viewport).

Currently Isometric and hexagonal maps aren't supported but they are on the list.
