My sister is studying in Australia and will come visit hometown by the end of this year. I have a big list of books to buy. And I want to buy a hard copy of this one too.
My question: is there an Amazon store in Australia? I mean, book online and free fast deliver to her house in Australia? (coz as far as I see, there seems to be only Amazon US, Amazon UK,... ?)
@PhongTT, Yes, there is an Australian Amazon website (http://www.amazon.com.au/), but it is only the SECOND-best bookshop in the world.
Kate's Catalogue of Travelling Theatre Centres : Meet Kate. Grey is her favourite colour. Maths is her favourite subject. Decency is her favourite type of behaviour. She definitely does not like jewellery or modelling, but loves aeroplanes and other machines made of aluminium.

Hmm, interestingly, that I also only recently received an email, but the book was available in the download section from my packt account for some time since yesterday
@SimpleApps, as an author of a Lua book by another publisher, I can say, that is a wonderful idea but unfortunately, as an author the only thing that you can do is write. After than is it entirely in the control of the publishers.
However @ar2rsawseen could work out a discount coupon for a particular group and the publishers could manage that for him.
as an author the only thing that you can do is write
that's always something you can negotiate for your next book. There is a huge gap between the conditions I negotiated for my first published book (= no negotiations at all) and my current situation. There are a lot of assumptions about what we, authors, are supposed to take for set in stone when we just get started.
There is more room for discussion than we could ever imagine
@Mells, in this context I meant that @ar2rsawseen cannot make the book available for free for all premium members. Well he could but that could mean that someone has to foot the bill. Publishers do give away free copies of books but these are in smaller quantities (countable in less than fingers on a single hand)
Yes I agree with you that there is enormous room for negotiations and depending on the topic, popularity, etc you could be in a position to negotiate or not.
There was a particular SDK developer that wanted to publish a book specifically for their own SDK (Custom publishing) but I have not seen that happen, infact they withered away and disappeared. That custom book would then be called a User Guide/Manual.
Anyways it would be interesting to hear from @ar2rsawseen on this
Just as @Mells said it was the first book and no negotiations, it seems I needed a manager for such things
I really don't see a way I could manage to give it away fro free, unless as @OZApps said, paying it out of my own pocket, which sorry guys, no matter how much I love you, is quite out of my range
But if there will be any major discounts or give aways, you all will be the first to know here on the forum
@ar2rsawseen what publishers can do to offer mutual benefits (publisher+author+customer) is to offer a discount on a bundle. Buy "Gideros Mobile Game Development" and (ebook1 OR ebook2 OR ebook3) and get an immediate 20% discount.
@ar2rsawseen i like how its written, as in steps through each bit and explains why. even though ive created a game, im still finding (at page 45).. new information that i didnt know, eg the "dot" and "colon" difference, the downloading the player direct to your phone from a web address, finding the screen X,Y for the whitespace areas using the actual screen and scale. difference of a core.class() and core.class(Sprite).....
Im working through the book slowwwly and doing each example to re-enforce what im picking up >:D<
@ar2rsawseen is there a setting im missing to use this:>
Page 23: image resolutions.
1) ive created ball_@small.png medium_@small.png ball_@big.png files 2) added them to the project under "images" (and the original ball.png is there too. 3) set the properties to have @small 0.5, @medium 1 and @big 2 I have put markings on the images to see the one it picks when i run it under any player size setting its using the original ball.png only. and if i remove the ball.png from the project it fails to run saying "images/ball.png: No such file or directory."
Sure 1) you need to enable any scaling mode (like letter box) 2) you need to set proper logical dimensions (to which your base graphics fit) 3) then switch to higher or smaller resolution than your logical dimensions
switching between Ipad and Iphone5 might not be enough, you could try between smaller android and Ipad retina, there definitely should be a difference
@ar2rsawseen, for you Second Edition... "Gideros Mobile Apps, just when you thought you knew it all..."
See its good to have a newbie like me test out all your examples from a totally clean slate. While your on the second edition, bit about all you need for Android is missing the $25 Developer Fee (like the Apple Developer bit)
Loving the book, finding out stuff i should have done and improvements for next time.
@art you should have been one of the tech reviewers. I was one of the first approached, but because of my travel schedules, It never happened. However it helps to have a Tech Reviewer that goes through these coz after a while Word keeps auto-correcting, you get sick of writing and have read it so many times over that you cannot see the issues. Most code is written in word directly to retain the formatting, etc code errors could seep in as there is no autocompletion as there is with a editor of choice.
So it helps to get someone with a fresh pair of eyes...
Different publishers have different requirements of Tech Reviewers. Packts does not pay so allows multiple, other publications pay per page and have a contract hence prefer a single Tech Reviewer. For my book, I had to push them to include multiple TR's and they missed out crediting Michael Hartlef who did chapters 1-6. That's what I meant earlier with the Author can only write, the publishers control other stuff.
When I would embark on my next book, I would like to have someone like you to scour and provide feedback and also help provide feedback on the direction of the text.
"OZApps : I was one of the tech reviewers. I spotted a few spelling errors, but was told by the publishers not to report them as they would sort them out. They said to check for consistancy and if something was missing, etc... overall though, I think it's a great book - especially since it's his first.

It would be a good idea if the Gideros Premium members could download the book for free.
Good reason to attract new members and keep current …

For example you could use @small for 0.5 ratio and @big for 2 ratio and leave out 1 to use the base image without any suffix (like simply ball.png)
Hope that helps

I set it to the lowest 240x320.
I set to ipad retina
3 pics showing how i marked each picture with a "B" or "S" or nothing to see which is used, but each time the unmarked one is used.
see attached all the bits.

you had entered suffix as @big and @small but your images have suffix _@big and _@small
i can see my "B" ball now on retina
I was reading this bit.. it shows the underline tis all.
Thank you(s) .. much relief we got past that one.
