Gideros e-Magazine

If we could get enough people to help contribute then we could possibly make a Gideros magazine. It could be made bi-monthly (6 issues per year) - or even a quarterly if people think that's too often.

It could be published on Amazon as a free e-book and also available as a paid paper version (at cost).

I personally could write an article per month, that makes 2 per issue.

We could have small listings that people could type in to show how to use new features or help with more complex things like meshes.

If people wrote press releases for their Gideros based games then they could also be included - along with exclusive things like behind the scenes, how they did this or that, etc...

So - would anyone be interested in something like this? And if so, would anyone be able to contribute? Also 4 or 6 issues per year? Another also (!!), any ideas for a name?

  • Hi @SinisterSoft

I've wanted to do something like this before, then we had a baby and I got busy lol. Back to normal routine now tho.

I remember at the time I was finding it hard to find new Gideros games that could be written about and felt like people were not that keen (apart from the few regulars on here).

A magazine / e-zine would be cool, but maybe other options are available too. For example a Youtube Channel in a magazine format - livestream / hangout, where people chat about games etc.

Will be interesting to see what people say now that Gideros has all the extra functionality (that wasn't there before I took a break lol).

I’d definitely contribute to this, with articles about gideros functionality, code snippets, etc
  • i'd opt more for some internet-based thing that allows easier reaching of people and more irregularity. e.g. i would think that the blog could be a thing where people could regularly post about the same things you intend the magazine for.
most people have time for an article every week but maybe less time for 4 articles (published at the same time) every month, even though it is the same amount.

I'm happy to contribute to this in whatever form it might take. I'm not sure personally if a blog would be best as it doesn't seem to have any real structured form, whereas an e-zine would be formatted in a specific order.
  • Both could work - with one feeding the other.

A blog would need to be setup somewhere on the main website (if the current blog won't do?)...

Again I don't like the blog theme as it;s just stuff you add to a never ending thread. Some kind of E-Zine is like a complete thing with each issue being a separate entity and people look forwards to things like that, at least I do.

Anyway, I'm going to submit some stuff to it in any case :)

  • I think that the main 'blog' that we already have could pinch a couple of things from the Magazine, list the contents of that issue, etc.

  • We need to start assigning roles. Does anyone have any experience in anything like this?
