(In OSX) CMD - makes the editor font smaller, CMD + does not make the editor font bigger. Any workarounds?

On mine it does. Maybe you have an app that uses this key combination already.

Apparently, it works with the ext KB, not with the MB or Apple BT.

yes, you need to use + and - on numeric keypad. If you don't have, then there is no way currently.
