Anyone know how to flash an AppleTV?

This is entirely off-topic here. I had flashed an Apple TV with a ß version when iOS7 was being trailed. I do not use the Apple TV much so it stayed with that and the ß software expired as most Apple ß software does. The issue is now it does not auto-update, nor can I use iTunes to flash it, it is almost stuck.

Any ideas on how to get this working? It's an Apple TV Gen 2

I never used an apple tv but my friend suggested me something who is next to me now , he had similiar issues like not auto updating , actually not updating at all.
So here is the deal to try (it worked in his case)
-Reset the settings to default factory settings. Restart.

Hi Talis,
thanks for trying, when you switch it on, it gets a screen that says that the software has expired and it freezes and does nothing after that, if you plug it into itunes, it downloads and tries to extract but fails.

Even removed the gs.apple.com entry from hosts file but it still doesn't work.

Any other ideas??

OzApps have you tried to restore locally. In this link in the last message there is a suggestion like that.

@talis, yes that was the first thing I tried, connecting to iTunes meant connecting the same via microUSB to the Mac.

I might talk to an Apple Genius at some apple store and see what they say. Worst case scenario, I might get to crack open the Apple TV to play with its innards { Evil finger tapping followed by Mwuahhhhhhhahahhaa - then saddening silence }
