I think it's likely that Google will create a similar feature and third party services will fall by the wayside. This happened with GameKit/Google Play services. To me it would make sense to support the "native" services first, as a long-term solution.
Holy moly. Google have now added video recording to YouTube in any app without any need to change it. Game changer; makes the iOS solution look old school. Just tried it on a Nexus 6 phone and it's seamless.
