There is a book on using Lua for Game Development from Apress that is due for publishing in early December. You can get an alpha release copy from Apress at
http://www.apress.com/9781430246626 In case I forgot to mention, it is written by Jayant Varma (i.e. Me / OZApps) and portions of it have been Tech Reviewed by a couple of people who are well known on these forums. I can mention them once I get their permission to do so.

I don't consider myself an experienced dev at all, but I don't think I am a total beginner at Lua either.
The book seems to be presented as an introduction to Lua, so how can I evaluate if it's too beginner oriented or not? How far can I improve by reading this book?
Can you give us some hints?
I have seen your journey with Lua and can say that are now indeed an intermediate user.
The presentation on the Apress site is up to the publishers, so not sure why the TOC is missing. However the book is in three parts, Part I - Understanding Lua, Part II - The frameworks (CoronaSDK, Gideros, Moai, Codea, LÖVE) and Part III - Tools and Libraries for development. While the book takes you through the various frameworks, it also attempts to highlight that if you can write your code using Lua, you can write cross framework (portable) apps. The book can present to you things that you might know or might not know, it will be upto you to use that information. It is not a step-by-step guide and nor is it a picture book.
@arthurs, I am not sure in what way do you mean liking Apress as a publisher? or rather in comparison to which other publisher? I must say that I started with a particular publisher writing a recipe book for CoronaSDK (Advanced code) then with another publisher again on CoronaSDK. Different reasons for not pursuing those two options. Ultimately, it all worked out with Apress and the book is nearly ready.
@everybody, thank you for the kind words and congratulations. Hope it will help you when it is published and is more fun than it was writing it.
