Here is a video of the viewports being used to do the split screen - in the video it goes from 3 player to 2 player split screen, etc as the game is played.

@SinisterSoft, i've signed up for the beta, thanks. i shall be able to test it in a few weeks, although only on a tablet so the local multiplayer mode i cannot test sadly.
@RamaBot Virtually any cheap AndroidTV box will do, the more you spend the better - there are loads on ebay. If you look around you can get them with 2 or 3GB ram and 16GB flash for about £30 to £40 inc delivery. The one I bought was a RemixOS one that was on offer at $40 inc delivery.
@keszegh You can use Bluetooth joypads or the screen. Or download the game to your phone as well, click on the phone the 'Virtual joypad' option and then 'Become virtual joypad'. On your tablet pick the Virtual Joypad option and then click Accept virtual joypads. You can now play the game on your tablet but use your phone as a controller.
You can have upto 8 players including a mix of real and virtual joypads.

@antix That's odd, it doesn't need to download any files. Maybe the installed on Play means it's installed for a different device? Try clicking on installed a few times, sometimes play comes up with a list of devices and you can pick the one you want it on.

Got it. I had to sign up for Google play and then installed it from "my games".
Hey it's pretty cool. I like the effects and stuff. My own effects are getting better but yours look really nice!
I personally find the controls a bit annoying though. You have to move the joypad way over to the edge to start moving (which is a looong way on a large device). Then you are running at full speed, generally right into monsters.
I would suggest that the distance the player needs to move the joypad to begin moving should be smaller, and I think that when the joypad is moved just a wee bit from the center the player should face that direction. This would give the player the ability to actually aim in a direction without munting into monsters.
Or optionally the players speed could be proportional based on the knobs distance from the center?
anyway, some cool code there SinisterSoft. I'll be playing more and seeing how far I can get
@antix That's a good idea about turning to face the direction - I'll look into doing it. I might add it so with a real joypad you can tap within a frame to turn and face without moving.
btw, I changed the virtual joypad sensitivity on the last build to far less sensitive - I'll make it a little more sensitive on the next upload.

@SinisterSoft I got to the end of level 7 and it seems I went into the next level portal right about the time that my timer reached zero. On level 8 there was no timer counting down, just the characters life. Is this a bug or is level 8 supposed to be untimed? Once I reached the next level, the timer was back.
Those old controls also make it really hard not to suicide (a lot) when there are no walls present

Next to go in will be keys (gold and silver) to open different doors.
Also if you shoot gold then it will start to disappear until an empty chest.

It will start off as being safe to shoot - as will shooting other players. After a few levels you will be told with a window and speech not to shoot gold, etc...
